Meet BWS At: The Grand Opening Of West Marine's New Flagship Store in Newport, RI on June 12th

Join BWS at the Grand Opening of the new 23,000 square foot Flagship Store: located at 379 West Main Road in Middletown, RI, on Saturday June 12th.

The new store will be West Marine’s largest store in New England and will have more sail hardware, anchor, docking, electrical, plumbing and maintenance products than any West Marine store in the country, in addition to having one of the most extensive inventories of electronics, ropes and safety products.

The grand opening kicks off at 8 AM Thursday June 10. There will be a “Cruising For A Cause” Charity Event that Thursday evening from 6 to 9 PM. The event includes a steel band, food, beverages, Goodie Bags filled with great swag and a Power Boat Docking Challenge with remote controlled boats in addition to other fun activities.

Admission to the general public is just $10 and all admission proceeds benefit local junior sailing programs as well as other boating non-profit organizations. From Thursday June 10 through Sunday, June 13 there will also be prize drawings, vendor demonstrations, free hot dogs & beverages, a Harken winch grinder competition, and a mini boat show. Plus, the first 100 customers each day get a free T-shirt.

West Marine's "Cruising For a Cause" Event To Benefit Newport Area Youth Sailing Programs and Boating Non-Profits

Watsonville, Calif. (May 17, 2010) - West Marine has announced a new "Cruising For A Cause" event, which will directly benefit local junior sailing programs and other boating non-profit organizations. 100% of the revenue from ticket sales will go directly to these programs.


"Cruising for a Cause" will take place June 10th from 6 to 9 PM at the new West Marine Flagship Store at 379 West Main Road in Middletown, RI. The event will include a steel drum band, food and many special exhibits including a Power Boat Docking Challenge with remote controlled boats.


Admission will be open to the public and tickets cost just $10 with all proceeds benefiting local junior sailing programs or boating organizations. A few of the participating programs include Sail Newport, the Ida Lewis Yacht Club, Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Island, The Rhode Island Leukemia Cup and the Herreshoff Marine Museum.

According to Laurie Fried, Director of Communications and Chief Sustainability Officer for West Marine "West Marine has a long history of supporting the local community and junior sailing programs. We hope this "Cruising for a Cause" event will provide much needed funding to help Newport area boating programs get off to a great start this year. Tickets will be available at the door or in advance at any of the participating organizations.
