Boat Insurance Resource List
The state of Florida with its meandering waterways and long coastline is indeed rich in water wealth. Thus sailing, is one of the most favorite pastimes of Florida residents. Many depend upon heir boats for their livelihood too. Whatever purpose your boat may serve, be it recreational or commercial, your boat is an asset and like all assets it is advisable that it has insurance.
Your boat must be registered within 30 days of purchase from your local county tax collector's office. It is advisable you carry your Bill of Sale and documents that show proof of purchase on the vessel at all times.
The type of insurance you may require for your boat depends on the purpose of your boat, i.e. whether it is a charter boat or a sailboat.
Charter Boat Insurance in Florida: Maritime law states that the charter boat operator is liable for all damages caused due to negligence. Which is why, a policy must be chosen with care, so that it protects the operator's legal rights, property and reimburses him for damage to his boat. Components which are essential in your policy:
Hull and Machinery Clause: This refers to the coverage of your vessel and all its parts. This policy should cover damages to your boat like:-
* Combustion, sinking or collision of boat,
* Deck machinery, engine, electronic components
* Coverage for damage of engine
Protection and Indemnity Clause: This policy helps you pay passengers who may be injured or hurt or might have suffered damage to personal property in you vessel.
Shore Excursion: If you don't have this clause in your policy it means that your passengers are not covered when they are not on board your vessel.
Crew Coverage: It is advisable to cover each crew member or you will be liable the injuries they sustain while performing their duty
Sail Boat Insurance in Florida: Your policy should cover not just your boat and other components but also the people on board. This means you should get a policy that gives you and your crew medical coverage as well. Unlike auto insurance here you have a choice of the parts which you want to insure. Ensure essentials like sails, riggings, and boat electronics are insured. Theft insurance too is advisable. Liability insurance too is a must have.
