Over the last three years Groupe Beneteau has completely reimagined its First series of Racer/Cruisers, starting with the elegant First 53 and then twice this year with the introduction of the First 36 in January and now the First 44. Designed by the Italian team Biscontini/Argento, the new line has futuristic looks, amazing performance hulls and tall, powerful rigs. The new 44 is available either as a First, with the emphasis on short handed sailing and cruising, or a First Performance, with an emphasis on crewed racing and offshore events. Both versions come with 80 gallons of water ballast that can be shifted from side to side from the helms and will help to boost upwind performance when sailing with a small crew. Down below the First 44 has a three cabin, two head layout and is finished with white lacquered bulkheads and molded wood joinery. The interior is full of light and offers accommodations as modern as the hull and rig. At 44 feet, the new First is a good and useful size for a couple or family looking to sail at a very high level when cruising and to show the fleet her transom when on the race course. The new boat will be introduced at the Cannes boat show in September. Check out the 44 and the First line here.
