Congratulations to Vic Lukas, Key West, FL who correctly answered last week’s question on antifouling paint. “The chemical tributyltin is a highly effective antifouling agent and is in fact quite poisonous in the water. The U.S. banned tin years ago for most boats, but it still can be used on steel and aluminum hulls where copper based paints would create electrolysis problems. You can still buy tin-based antifouling paint third world countries and the Caribbean.”
