Before reading on, please take a moment to fill out this week’s survey we can share your thoughts and experience with the Cruising Compass family.
With summer sailing vacations ahead, and some time to read, can you share with the CC family your top five sailing books that every sailor should read?
Thanks to all readers who took the time to fill out last week’s survey on monitoring your boat’s carbon footprint. 76% of those who replied do not monitor their boat’s carbon footprint. Asked why not, 60% said that sailboats are not big polluters, 53% said sailboats use fall less fuel than powerboats, and 43% said they were more concerned with fuel efficiency than exhaust issues. 23% said climate change is an open question and quite a few commented “I never thought about it until now.”
Of those who do monitor their carbon foot print, 100% said they have added solar panels, 53% have upgraded their sail inventory so they sail more and motor less, 44% have added a wind or water generator, 28% have upgraded their outboards from two-stroke to four-stroke and 31% added larger awnings to reduce the need for AC.
