The U.S. Coast Guard performed two rescues in Cape Cod waters Saturday night, assisting a sinking fishing vessel and evacuating a man suffering from heart-attack-like symptoms off Chatham.<\/p>\n
The 75-foot trawler Destiny<\/em> put in a distress call to the Sector Southeastern New England Command Center at 6:33 p.m. Saturday, for a man with a possible heart attack, according to a Coast Guard statement.<\/p>\n \u201cDue to weather conditions, Station Chatham was unable to conduct a shipboard medevac,\u201d according to the statement, \u201cand a Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew was launched to complete the medevac.\u201d<\/p>\n Around 10:45 p.m. the 47-year-old man was taken to Cape Cod Hospital.<\/p>\n Earlier in the night, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Seneca<\/em> helped seven people on the fishing vessel Linda<\/em>, which reported it was taking on water 150 miles east of Cape Cod.<\/p>\n The 79-foot boat put in a distress call at about 2 p.m. that it was taking on water with seven people aboard, according to a Coast Guard statement.<\/p>\n A nearby boat later called in to report the vessel was \u201cstable, utilizing pumps, and all people aboard were outfitted with survival suits and a life raft was prepared,\u201d according to the Coast Guard.<\/p>\n Crews of the Cutter Seneca<\/em> arrived and assisted the vessel with \u201cdewatering, shoring the damaged hull and restarting the engine.\u201d The boat was eventually escorted back to its homeport in New Bedford.<\/p>\n
