Giving Thanks to the Coast Guard

Everyone needs help sometimes. The Coast Guard is generally out there helping sailors in need and now that there is a government shutdown, some people and institutions have reversed their roles. Any active-duty members of the Coast Guard in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts are being invited for a hot meal provided by  Roger Williams University and Bon Appétit Management Company.

Salaries for members of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps are not affected by the latest government shutdown. But the Coast Guard is funded through the Department of Homeland Security, one of multiple agencies whose budgets lapsed late last month amid an impasse over border wall funding.
