Magnetic North Pole Used to Calibrate GPS is on the Move

(Space) – For the past two decades the earth’s magnetic north pole has been drifting from its  previous home in the Canadian Arctic toward Siberia, crossing the prime meridian for the first time. Scientists are studying why this has happened and why the magnetic field is currently undergoing a period of weakening. For sailors, this is of interest as the magnetic north is used to calibrate GPS and other navigational instruments. Read More
