(Detroit Free Press) – November 10, 1975 the freighter Edmund Fitzgerald sank in heavy seas in Lake Superior. Immortalized in the haunting song written by Gordon Lightfoot the boat has always been part of America’s collective consciousness. The annual memorial service held in the Mariners’ Church, Detroit, MI this year was live-streamed on Facebook.
