(LATimes) – Earler this month the research vessel Sally Ride left San Diego, CA headed for the San Pedro Basin, off the coast of Catalina Island, to survey almost 50,000 acres of the ocean floor. In the past the largest manufacturer of DDT dumped its waste into the ocean. They believe there may be as many as half a million barrels of waste 3,000 feet below the sea.
