Many thanks to everyone who sent in answers to last week’s question on katabatic winds. The winner this week is Nick Bigney, Dallas, Texas who emailed: “Earnest Shackleton may have encountered some furious katabatic winds which will rip down a valley or canyon into a harbor. They will knock a boat flat if the boat is responding to current and may be hit crosswise as they lay in a harbor. Boats may encounter Williwaws as they anchor in far southern harbors preparatory to traversing Cape Horn.”
