The winner this week is Andy Reimer, Weston, Massachusetts who emailed: “The COSPAS-SARSAT system is a comprised of satellites and mission control centers that receive and respond to emergency signals from EPIRBs, PLBs and emergency locator transmitters. The non-profit organization was founded in 1979 by the U.S., Canada, Russia and England and is now supported by 42 member nations. On average, the search and rescue function saves 3,200 people annually at sea, on land and in aviation incidents.”
