Before reading on, please take a moment to fill out this week’s survey so we can share your knowledge and experiences with the Cruising Compass family. Thanks.
Are you in the process of fitting our a boat for extended cruising and living aboard?
Thanks to all readers who took the time to answer the last survey on water makers. Of those who replied, 47% have a water maker and they rated the water it produces at 4.7 stars out of five. Of those who do not have a water maker, 29% say they plan to add one. Asked if those with water makers add anything to improve the flavor and the wide majority do not. Of those who do, the most common solution is to add a Seagull-type filter at the galley sink.
One reader emailed: “I use an inline marble sand module to bring the PH to 7 on the output side. As the water that comes out of an RO unit is slightly acid, untreated water will degrade any aluminum in the system. I also run the water through a Seagull filter and a Brita filter to keep water cold for crew in the fridge. No need for bottled water and the massive trash that it produces.”
