2017 Salty Dawg Rally to Sail to Antigua This Fall. Plus, Salty Dawg BVI Relief Fund Launched

By George Day · On September 12, 2017

In the wake of Hurricane Irma and with the widespread destruction of the BVI and the Bitter End Yacht Club, the Salty Dawg Sailing Association wants to reassure all of our members, friends and the sailing community that the 2017 Rally will be going forward as planned. The Rally Management team and Board of Directors has been meeting continuously over the last week and have decided that Falmouth Harbour, Antigua will be the destination at the end of the Fall Rally. Antigua was only lightly damaged by Irma and has all the facilities and amenities the Dawgs will want and need. Plus, the island is well served by major airlines.

The 2017 Rally is scheduled to depart from Hampton, Virginia and other Eastern Seaboard ports on November 2nd, weather permitting. Read more about the Fall Rally here.

SALTY DAWG BVI RELIEF FUND

With Your Help, The BVI Can Look Beautiful Again!

Our hearts and prayers are with the people of the Virgin Islands as they recover from the devastating blows of Hurricane Irma. We know the resilience of our friends in the Caribbean and have seen them reconstruct their beautiful islands after the tropical devastations in the past.

Since the images of the havoc caused by Hurricane Irma have emerged, Salty Dawgs around the world have united their voices in a single plea…What Can We Do To Help!

In response, the Salty Dawg Sailing Association, a 501(c)(3), charitable, volunteer-run organization, has established the tax-deductible Salty Dawg BVI Relief Fund. We encourage you to contribute. Our volunteers are working with local BVI Rotary and similar groups to channel 100% of your contributions to those most in need. Contributions will be distributed to local groups in cash or with needed emergency material and supplies. Neither SDSA nor local Rotary groups apply any administrative fees to distribution of these funds.

Our focus is on the British Virgin Islands, as the damage there is quite severe and because we have had a long relationship with residents of these islands. Opportunities for Salty Dawg Fall Rally vessels to transport supplies will be evaluated as the situation on the islands becomes clearer.

If you would like to help, you can donate to the Salty Dawg BVI Relief fund now by clicking here.
