Sinking with a Purpose

(WHYY) – American Glory, a 49-passenger luxury cruise ship built in 2002 and removed from service in 2017 has a new purpose in life. She was sunk about 15 nautical miles off the coast of the Indian River inlet in Delaware to become part of an artificial reef. Since the waters off the Delaware coast are fairly barren, they are using artificial reefs to draw fish to the area. The American Glory will be joining the Redbird Inshore Artificial Reef site, where there are already tugboats, barges and nearly 1,000 New York subway cars. Read More
