The anwer is more complicated than I initially realized. Thanks to Linda Knowles for bringing this to my attention. Pennant is the more commonly used term for a thin flag flown from a masthead today. Though pendant seems to have been used interchangeably with pennant in the past, the modern definition I found is: A length of wire or rope secured at one end to a mast or spar and having a block or other fitting at the lower end.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
