Have not met anyone who has used it in a real life situation either. Even so it was included in a basic seamanship course that I taught for a few years.\u00a0 It&#8217;s designed to shorten a rope and will hold under load, but is a bit iffy even then unless whippings are used to stop it letting go if the rope slacks slightly.
