On Sunday, May 12, a pod of 15 whales mounted a coordinated attack attack the 49-foot sloop Alberon Cognac in the Straits. The boat began leaking badly so the couple on board were forced to call a Mayday. They were rescued by a nearby ship. Their boat later sank.
