A yacht in the Clipper Round the World race has set sail for St. John’s after a crew member was hurt.

The Qingdao was one of ten boats competing in the Clipper 11-12 Round the World race.  It pulled out of the event Thursday after a woman, 60, was injured.  The 21-meter boat was east of the Grand Banks at the time.

The Canadian Forces Joint Rescue Co-ordination Center in Halifax was contacted.  “We’re monitoring it, but there is a doctor onboard and the doctor is saying the patient does not need to be airlifted, so we’re just following them,” said JRCC spokesperson Geri Grychowski.

The Qingdao is expected to arrive in St. John’s on Saturday. Its home port is the Chinese city of Qingdao.
