With Charter Season Ahead, What’s Up in the BVI?

It has been two years and two month since the horrible hurricanes swept through the Caribbean in 2017 causing death and destruction. The BVI, the world’s favorite place to charter a boat, was hit particularly hard and the charter fleets were decimated. Fully two thirds of the boats in charter were damaged or destroyed. But the islanders and the charter companies have bounced back and are ready for thousands of visitor this winter. The Moorings is the oldest charter company in the islands and was a leader of the reconstruction of the islands’ infrastructure and the charter facilities. Staffer Tina Heuwe recently filed this update on the state of affairs in the BVI on The Moorings’ Blog. 

 

More than 2 years have passed since Hurricanes Irma and Maria swept through the Caribbean. For many months after, we worried and answered questions like “So how are things?” and “What’s open?” when customers inquired about their favorite snorkeling spots, beach bars, and restaurants in the British Virgin Islands.

By now it’s luckily much easier to compose a short list of businesses that have NOT yet reopened than citing the hundreds of establishments that are back to business as usual and that every day welcome yachtsmen from around the world.
