September 1894 the 191-foot, three-masted schooner, Ironton sank from a collision with the 203-foot steamer Ohio after avoiding a collision with the 190-foot steamer Charles J. Kershaw. The Ohio sank quickly with all 16 crew escaping in lifeboats. The seven crew onboard the Ironton were onboard their lifeboat but they had neglected to untie the lifeboat from the ship. Read more.
