Long Distance Sailing Seminar in London

By Administrator · On July 4, 2012

If you are thinking of undertaking a long distance voyage any time soon and are within reach of London by August 18th, this is a seminar you won’t want to miss.

The Cruising Associations (CA) Blue Water Section, is organizing a Long Distance Sailing Seminar to be held at the CA headquarters in London’s Limehouse Basin on August 18, 2012.

The program deals with topics of interest to both those at the planning stage and cruisers currently sailing in locations where “home” is only reached by airplane.

The program commences with registration at 9:30 am and will continue until approximately 5:00 pm. Plenty of time has been allowed for discussion at the end of each presentation and further informal discussion will be possible with speakers, after their presentation. The library will be open and available during and after the seminar.

Program:

Mid ocean-things that could spoil your day by Vyv Cox, a frequent technical contributor to Yachting Monthly and PBO who will advise on inspection and hopefully avoidance.

Power on Board by Matt Boney who has recently written an article on the subject for long distance cruisers. He will be talking about generation, storage, conservation and monitoring of power

Staying in Touch will be presented by Ed Wildgoose of Mailasail, who provides satellite and wifi communications equipment, services and expertise

Yacht Preparation and Equipment for long distance sailing, to be presented by Michael Hartshorn, a BW member currently sailing in N. America for the second season.

MyCA and Captain’s mate, a talk by Ivan Andrews, the CA’s very own IT guru, who will talk about the continuing developments and use by members of the Captain,s mate phone app and the CA website

Managing Medical Matters on Board, a talk by Dr Bernie Smallman, a regular speaker at the Medsec seminars, dealing with the problems of resolving medical issues on board when you may be several days away from professional help.

For those wishing to stay on for supper or just a chat, the bar will be open after the seminar. Limited car parking is available and overnight cabin accommodation is currently available for members.
