A Big Cruising Trimaran –Neel 51—Combines Sailing Performance with Ultimate Comfort

By George Day · On March 21, 2018

We’ve been following the development of the Neel trimarans for about five years and have to say that the design concept is very appealing. The Neel 45 introduced the above-the hulls saloon that gives the tri as much living space as a comparable catamaran, plus it offers the main hull beneath the saloon which is the largest engine and systems space on any boat of this size. The 45 won the multihull class in the 2015 ARC rally by a full two days…it’s that fast.

The new 51 takes the design concept and expands upon it in all directions. This is a boat that could be the near-ultimate world cruiser, except that it is more than 20 feet wide. Yachting World magazine’s Toby Hodges got a ride on the Neel 51 and came away very impressed. See his report in YW here.
