The Spanish Main was famous for silver, gold and shipwrecks. There have been some amazing finds but nothing yet compares to the treasure strove that was recently found in the Southern Caribbean off the cost of Colombia. See Jena Greene’s report in The Smokeroom.
“Treasure hunting researchers are now revealing their findings from a massive shipwreck found off the coast of Columbia, and the details are unbelievable.
“The ship, which is believed to be the San Jose, has been sunken for about 300 years near the Rosario Islands in the Caribbean. The massive galleon was carrying booty from the area back to Spain to help fund the Spanish war of succession against Britain. It was tracked down by British Commodore Charles Wager of the Royal Navy, who planned to take the ship over when he got close enough. However, when they fired upon the San Jose all the ammunition onboard detonated and sank it, taking nearly 600 lives and treasure with it.” Read more.
