(The Guardian UK) – Scientists are uncertain as to why, but a pod of whales appears to be ramming sailboats in an area off Spain and Portuga, on purpose. There have been a number of encounters in July and August with the whales breaking off rudders and slaming into the sterns any number of times. While the Spanish authorities are warning people to stay clear, the whales themselves are making it difficult. Some scientists speculate there is stress in the endangered population. Read More
