(gCaptain.com) – Captain Joseph Jeffrey Hazelwood, the Master of the Exxon Valdez when it grounded in Alaska in 1989 has passed away at age 75. The grounding in Prince William Sound, AK spilled 11 million gallons of oil, making it one of the largest environmental disasters in U.S. history. The spill let to Congress to enact the Oil Pollution Act of 1990. Captain Hazelwood was acquitted of felony charges but found guilty of a misdemeanor charge of negligently discharging oil. Read More
