The Return of Cargo Carrying Sailing Ships

Since he was in his early 20s, Dutchman Jorne Langlaan has dreamed of running sailing cargo ships instead of those powered by fossil fuels. Now 40, Langlaan’s dream has come to fruition. Two years ago, he started restoring a two-masted, Dutch sailing barge that he bough with $600,000 Euros raised through crowdfunding, and now he and his company Ecoclipper have started to establish short cargo routes from the Netherlands up and down the west coast of Europe. The ship, built in 1912 and named De Tukker, can carry 70 tons of cargo and 12 passengers. Read more.
