Many thanks to all readers who took the time to fill out last week’s survey on drogues. Of those who answered, 43% carry a drogue or sea anchor. Of those, only 7% have used their drogues or sea anchors in a gale or storm. Of that 7%, all reported that the drogue or sea anchor worked very well. The most popular brands carried are: 1. Jordan Series Drogue, 2. Gale Rider and 3. Fiorentino Para-Anchor.
One reader commented: “When ocean passage-making, I carried a Jordan Series drogue, which I considered far more effective than any other drogue. I also had a GaleRider which I still carry (sailing in the Great Lakes now), partly for steering help if the rudder gives way.”
