The aggressive behavior of a pod of Orcas in and around the Straits of Gibraltar is still a mystery to the scientists who are monitoring their attacks on yachts. Thus far, more than 700 Orca-yacht interactions have been recorded. See the map above.
On Sunday, May 12, a pod of 15 whales mounted a coordinated attack attack the 49-foot sloop Alberon Cognac in the Straits. The boat began leaking badly so the couple on board were forced to call a Mayday. They were rescued by a nearby ship. Their boat later sank. Read more here.
