The three Grenadian men accused of murdering Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandell last year have been found guilty and given long jail sentences by the Grenadian high court bringing some semblance of closure to this tragedy.
Ralph and Kathy were active members and volunteers for the Salty Dawg Sailing Association and friends with many of us who have been active with the organization. They were cruising in Grenada aboard their cruising cat Simplicity.
On February 20, Simplicity was anchored in a quiet bay on Grenada’s southwest coast where it was boarded in the middle of the night by three escapees from the local jail. The criminals viscously attacked Ralph and Kathy as they stole the catamaran and headed north toward St. Vincent. In testimony during the trials, it became clear that the criminals bound and gagged the two and threw them over Simplicity’s side. Their bodies were never recovered.
