Salty Dawgs Update: Caribbean Rally, Annapolis Rendezvous and the January Jump to the Bahamas

By George Day · On September 9, 2025

With the annual Fall Salty Dawg Rally to the Caribbean and Bahamas approaching, the last count we saw of the fleet had the number of boats at 90 and growing.  The starts from Newport, Rhode Island and Hampton, Virginia as usual will be around November 1 depending on the weather.

The fall Caribbean Rally is now a classic Atlantic cruising event. The rally is run by an all-volunteer team that provides weather and routing, shoreside support, and mentoring as well as 24/7 telemedicine support from the Washington University Mobile Medical team.  It may be the best value in the sailing world.

Here are two other Salty Dawg events that you’ll want to mark on your calendars:

2026 JANUARY JUMP

Set sail for adventure this winter with the second January Jump to the Bahamas! This rally offers a perfect winter escape for sailors looking to explore the stunning beauty of the Bahamas while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow cruisers. Departing from West Palm Beach, Florida in mid-January, bound for Great Harbour Cay, the January Jump is designed to help both new and experienced sailors make a safe and enjoyable passage to some of the most pristine cruising grounds in the Atlantic.

The rally includes detailed planning support, weather routing, and a network of resources to make your journey stress-free and rewarding. Participants benefit from expert advice, informative webinars, and access to Salty Dawg coordinators who are experienced in Bahamas cruising. Once underway, you’ll enjoy the shared experience of buddy boating with other rally participants, making the crossing safer and more fun. Whether you’re a seasoned offshore sailor or preparing for your first jump to the islands, the support provided makes all the difference.

After arrival the real magic begins as crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and a vibrant sailing community await. With impromptu meetups and social events throughout the islands, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to connect, swap stories, and enjoy paradise with fellow cruisers. Join the January Jump Rally to turn your winter blues into turquoise views, because the best way to start the new year is on your boat, heading out with the Dawgs!
