PredictWind Improves Swell Forecasting, Adds New Locations

By Administrator · On October 22, 2014

PredictWind has made significant improvements to their swell forecasting models and added new locations worldwide. By integrating the new 50km global wind forecast with ocean current data they have created the most advanced swell modeling available online.

By combining PredictWind forecast data with ocean current data, the effect of the wind on swells can be accounted for, resulting in more accurate swell forecasting. New locations have also been added such as the Med, Black Sea and Persian Gulf.

The new forecast also takes into account the effects of islands and land masses that can have a significant dampening and directional effect on swells.

As with all forecasts on PredictWind, both PWC and PWG forecasts are generated for comparison. This is very useful for gauging the validity of the swell forecast.

The main swell forecast updates are:

  • New worldwide 50km resolution.
  • Combination of ocean current data and PredictWind wind forecasts.
  • Takes into account the effect of islands and land masses.
  • Most accurate swell forecasting available online.
