Apple iOS 8.3 Causing Issues with External GPS

iPad-NavionicsThe latest update for Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 8.3, has been reported to cause problems with certain Bluetooth GPS receivers. If you have not yet updated to iOS 8.3, you may want to wait, especially if you’re using an external GPS.

If you already have updated and are having issues, you can use the device’s built-in GPS – if it has one. “Downgrading” to an older iOS is generally not an option (techies who can figure out how should expect a lot of other problems). You may just need to wait for Apple to release a fix to the bug.

The beta iOS 8.4 released earlier this week has the same GPS issue, according to the Bad Elf website.  Cruiser Bill Fennecken uses a Dual XGPS150A Bluetooth external GPS for his Apple iPad AIR, with Navionics+ and Garmin Blue Chart Mobile apps as his primary chartplotter.
