A yacht owned by the commodore of the Island Sailing Club of Cowes, U.K., sank after it hit a shipwreck in the Round the Island race. Mark Wynter’s beloved Dubois half-tonner, Alchemist, hit the SS Varvassi wreck, leading to a rescue operation involving RNLI crews from Yarmouth and Christchurch-based Mudeford, as well as The Needles coastguard rescue team.
