Congratulations to James Gravelle for his correct answer to last week’s Mindbender question. “In navigation, the point on a chart created by the intersection of two or more lines of position (LOPs) or bearings is called a fix. The symbol for a fix is a full circle and dot. If you have two or more bearings on different objects at the same time, you are on each of the lines and therefore are at the position where the lines meet. Three bearing fixes are generally considered to be better than two bearing fixes. Three bearings usually create a small triangle called a cocked hat. You are in the center of the triangle formed by the three bearings.”
