Crossing the Atlantic in a Barrel

Jean-Jacques Savin, a 71-year old Frenchman left from El Hierro in Spain’s Canary Islands. He is headed to the Caribbean, hoping to make landfall in three months, crossing in a barrel. Oceanographers will be using his information to study ocean currents and other scientists will be studying the effects of solitude in close confinement.
