Whale Warning Flag: Exercise Caution When Boating in the Area

NOAA’s Fisheries’ Southwest Fisheries Science Center has been studying the health of individual orca whales as well as the general population. Through studies and aerial images they have noted the deterioration of the condition of orca whale, J17. Washington Governor Jay Inslee has signed a state law requiring vessels to stay back from the whales to help encourage their foraging. The Canadian government has written similar laws that will go into effect in June. Read More
