Multihull Magic in Miami

By Sandy Parks · On February 7, 2020

Come to my seminar on modern multihulls at the Miami International Boat Show (Virginia Key) on Friday February 13 at 11 am.

Over the last 15 years, I’ve had the chance to sail just about all of the new multihulls that have come onto the U.S. market in order to write reviews of them for Multihulls Today, Blue Water Sailing and Cruising Compass. This includes all the major brands and all of the varieties of design styles. Plus I have visited the factories of most of the major builders in Europe and South Africa, so I have a good idea of how the boats are built.
I had the good fortune to have Peter Johnstone invite me to help him deliver the very first Gunboat 62, Tribe, from Charlestown, SC to Newport, RI around Cape Hatteras. We had 20 knots of northeast breeze to round the Cape, right on the nose, and got to see firsthand how modern ultra-performance cats behave in real weather. It was an eye-opener.
A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to sail with circumnavigators Julie and Rick Palm in the Salty Dawg Rally that runs from Hampton, VA to the BVI in the Caribbean aboard their Outremer 51 Archer. We had all varieties of weather and got to really see how performance cats with daggerboards behave in a range of conditions.
The seminar will cover the stories of these and other multihull adventures and will delve into the variety of cats and tris available and which type and brand may be the best for your cruising dreams. Plus we’ll take a look at the pros and cons of owning a cat in a charter fleet. If you are into multihulls and get to the show in Miami, sign up and come by the seminar tent for a fun look at everything to do with multiuhulls.
