Congratulations to Danielle Foster of Windsor, Ontario, Canada who correctly answered last week’s Mindbender question regarding the use of boom vangs. “When you tighten the vang on the main boom, you tighten the sail’s leech. That takes twist out of the top of the sail and increases the mast bend, which flattens the belly of the sail. You do this to make the mainsail more efficient in gusty or stronger winds and to decrease weather helm and heeling angles.”
