Phil Manker of Salem, OR, gave a good answer to last week’s question about algae growing in diesel fuel tanks. “The algae that appears in diesel fuel tanks is really a microbe that can thrive in total darkness. Algae needs light to grow. The microbes need free water and actually ingest diesel fuel to survive. So, if you have as little as an eighth of an inch of water in the bottom of your tank, you can get a microbe infestation that can ruin the fuel and clog fuel filters. To prevent microbe growth, add a biocide, such as Biobor Fuel Biocide, to your fuel.”
