(MIchigan Live) – As they have done for the past 20 years, the Coast Guard recreated the 1912 Christmas-time journey of the Rouse Simmons, a Lake Michigan cargo ship which delivered Christmas trees loaded up near the Upper Peninsula along the coast and down to Chicago. The Rouse Simmons sank in heavy seas late November 1912 and the Coast Guard commemorates her trip each year, this year delivering more than 1,000 to families in need around the Chicago area.
