Phil Hastings, a scientist at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in La Jolla, CA has had to work at home during the Pandemic. He grabbed specimens of fishes to bring home with him knowing he would have time to do more research on possible new species.
The discoverer of a new species gets to name the find and Hastings gave it the name, Coralliozetus clausus, the common form being Pandemic Blenny as clausus means “having been shut off”. Read More
