Congratulations to Sam Norton, Portsmouth, NH, who correctly answered last week’s question. “When you double the angle or bearing on a boat’s bow while sailing past a landmark or buoy, you are measuring your distance off that landmark. If you take a bearing of 60 degrees on a lighthouse, sail until the bearing is 120 degrees, taking note of the distance you have sailed, you will be as far off the lighthouse as the distance between the two bearings.”
