Cruising Compass
Question of the Week 0

Survey of the Week

By George Day · On March 27, 2022

Before reading on, please pause for a moment to take this week’s survey so we can share the results with the Cruising Compass family.

Do you have a water maker on your boat and can you recommend a brand to other cruisers?

Many thanks to all readers who completed last week’s survey on crew for passages. 69% say they take only fam ly and friends, 51% say they take crew highly recommended by family and fiends, 15% take crew from members of their yacht club or sailing association,  7% never take extra crew and 4% have used a crew service.  Regarding crew experiences, 49% have had a problem with a crew member while 51% have not.

The most common problems cited by readers are: lying about sailing experience,  incompatibility,  chronic seasickness,  crew trying to be the skipper, guys competing over a female crew and an alcoholic/addict trying to dry out offshore (no fun).
