(insideclimatenews.org) – Over the past few years hurricane experts have gotten very good at forecasting the track of hurricanes but forecasting storm intensity still eludes them. This is especially true as climate change appears to be producing more powerful and deadly storms. Scientists have turned to drones that move under and across the surface of water and in the air to collect environmental data. NOAA will deploy five Saildrones this hurricane season to gather data such as wind speed and direction, ocean temperature, wave height and salinity and air pressure.
