When docking your cruising boat on a float or dock with the wind and/or current pushing you off the dock, which spring line attached to the dock is most effective to bring you in close and secure without drama?

Send your answers to cruisingcompass@bwsailing.com. A winner will be drawn from the correct answers and will win a subscription to the digital version of Blue Water Sailing.

Congratulations to Stephan Meyer, Delray Beach, FL, who correctly answered last week’s question. “When you see oxidation or corrosion coming out of a swage fitting on a stay and running up or down the strands of your standing rigging, the side stays, fore stay and back stay, that means you have  water inside the swaging and the wire stay is compromised. It is called barber poling because the corrosion in the wires wraps around in the pattern of an old fashion barber pole. Barber poling on a stay signals that it is time to replace it.”
