The winner this week is Sheldon Fontaine, Mission Hills, CA who emailed: “Sailmakers can place reef points almost anywhere they want on a mainsail depending on the client’s needs but as a general rule we will use 12% of the luff as the standard increment — 12, 24 and 36% for three reefs.”
Correction: For last week’s Mindbender answer we goofed and picked the wrong winner. The correct answer for the sound signal used by a sailboat underway in dense fog is, “One long blast followed by two short blasts at two minute intervals.”
