Many thanks to all readers who took the time to fill out last week’s long survey on electric winches on our boats. Of the many readers who replied, 42% have electric winches. The most common types of electric winches are cockpit sheet winches, anchor windlasses and halyard winches. 94% of these are electric with 6% being hydraulic. Of those without electric winches, 38% say they plan to upgrade to electric power and of those, 61% say they will retrofit existing winches with electric motors while 38% will buy new winches.
