Discovering Turkey’s Turquoise Coast

By George Day · On June 25, 2024

I’ve had the good fortune to have spent two summers cruising the southwest coast of Turkey from Kas in the east to Bodrum in the west and count this area, known as the Turquoise Coast, as one of our favorite cruising grounds.

While there are harbors and bays that have large charter fleets and many cruising boats, not five miles in any direction you can find stunning bays, protected inlets and charming villages that are truly far from the madding crowd.

Even inside Feythie Bay, one of the coast’s sailing and charter centers, you can still find little anchorages that are empty and terrific little beach-side bistros where you can dine on local seafood and wine.

In Spring and Fall, the crowds disappear, and you can have the Turquoise Coast to yourself. In summer, when all of Europe is on vacation, the crowds materialize. And, it can be so hot that all you want to do is swim in that spectacular turquoise water.

Cruiser and author Jules Riegal, spent a season exploring this coast and penned a useful and fun guide in Sailing Today for those of us who may follow. Read more.
