The Swedish builder Hallberg Rassy has a long history of building family-style cruisers in the 37-foot size range. The previous 372 was in production non-stop for 16 years and only ceased being built last year.
The new 370 fills that slot in the builder’s line and incorporates the look and style of the most recent new boats with the plumb bow and bowsprit and squared off transom with a fold down swim platform. The cock it fitted with twin wheels and either a removable table or a fixed version. For ease of handling around the marina docks, the new design comes standard with bow and stern thrusters.
The sail plan has a double-spreader rig with the main traveler on the cabin top where it is safely out of the crew’s way. The tracks and cars for the genoa sheets are on the cabin top as well, which will improve sheeting angles and thus windward performance. A self-tacking jib is an option that will work well with a Code 0 rigged to the bowsprit.
Under the water the 370 has a fiberglass enclosed steel fin keel with a large lead bulb at the bottom, so the design promises to be stiff and weatherly. And, with her beamy stern, flat underwater shape aft and twin rudders she will be a real rocket off the wind.
HR only offers one accommodation plan with two cabins and one large head. But with the added beam of the new hull, the sleeping cabins are large when compared to the 372. The only options will be to have either a bench settee across from the dinette or twin built-in easy chairs with a table between them. In the easy chair plan, you can also have an island double bunk forward.
Also, in the galley, you can up for two drawer-style fridges and a built-in freezer under the chart table’s seat or you can swap out one of the drawers for a small dishwasher.
The 370 will be introduced at Hallberg Rassy’s annual Open Yard event on August 22nd and will be available for test sails in September. This mini boat show attracts HR owners and friends from around the world and is a great chance to see how these famous Scandinavian cruisers are built.
